"You...you think you could teach me your language? Or at least, how to read it. We seem to have no trouble speaking to each other, but it's occurred to me that just because you can read the books I gave you doesn't necessarily mean I'll be able to read the tomes of your world."

The Nexus is a strange and magical place. For all Jim knows, the books could be charmed to appear in whatever language the reader understands. Jim hardly expects things to be so easy for him. But he's hopeful. He wants to learn more about this world and Felix's people. Hopefully he won't put his foot in his mouth during conversations then.
