"A year?" Marcella looks around at them in patent surprise. Terentius echoes that look, but then nods slowly, as if things are starting to make more sense.

"So that's why you've been sticking out that post," he says to Felix, who makes a noncommittal shrug behind the beer he's lifting to his mouth. Terentius smiles and lifts his own. "Well, congratulations to you both. It's about time Felix brought you for a visit."

"At least they didn't get married first," Marcella says distractedly, feeding a log onto the fire before she settles on a chair. Felix has to swallow his beer rather hastily.

"...Well, I know it's overdue, but I wasn't going to wait that long." He gives Jim an embarrassed smile. "I've been looking forward to showing him all of this." And looking Jim's way while he says it means he misses the look his cousin gives him - the one that says dear Mara, you genuinely have it bad. This is a novel sight for her.
